Olgam Life

What the client asked for

Olgam Life is a plasma donation business that wanted to establish a presence in New York City. They wanted to be seen as a leading service provider through thoughtful design that emphasized a human touch.

They asked us to help them establish their brand identity by designing 11 warm and inviting spaces for them across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx.

The challenges we faced

Donating plasma saves lives. The plasma donated through Olgam Life centers helps countless patients with difficult medical conditions.

Unfortunately, donating plasma isn’t exactly a pleasant experience.

To encourage people to come into the center and donate plasma, we wanted to use biophilic elements to create warm and inviting spaces. We didn’t want them to feel like hospitals.

But these spaces are medical centers, and so we needed to take practical considerations into account. Creating efficient forms of egress for both patients and biomedical waste is so important. We wanted these spaces to have the medical functionality but not the medical feel.

How we overcame the challenges

One of our main goals was to create unity between the different spaces. We wanted to establish a strong brand identity for Olgam Life that would encourage donors to feel comfortable returning.

The lobbies were designed with warm tones and natural colors. They also include biophilic elements so the spaces don’t feel clinical or inhuman.

We also worked closely with Olgam Life to understand their needs. We designed a unique u-shaped floor plan that maximizes efficiency and helps Olgam Life move patients and materials in and out of the space.

After all, functionality is the most calming design element of all.
